Typical night in the mcconnell house February 21, 2008

Not sure what you guys do at your house on a weeknight, here’s what we’ve been up to:

After that dance session, I stayed up until midnight baking cakes for the EtchaSketch battle in the gallery

Ah, finally in bed! Cuddling up with my fat cat Elvis ’til the break of dawn, kitty got it going on.

A lime green cast for a boy with a broken wrist! January 15, 2008

Jesse has a Buckle Fracture in his distal Radius on his right wrist.

So, he gets to wear this for a month. Week one almost done, he is adjusting better than I thought.

He broke it while playing at a gymnastics birthday party, fell off a little trampoline and landed on an outstretched arm. Ouchey! But it doesn’t hurt him at all now, it just itches a bit.

Pretty much what we look at every day, lil hanger on.

Myself and my lovely mother-in-law (and artist extraordinaire) Shirley.

Great art while visiting “the castle”.

Some of Shirley’s masterpieces, really lovely little paintings at a Crystal Beach gallery.

Patrick really liked this one by his mother.

I really like this one, makes me want to ride my bike.

Ruby with my mom and step dad Greg at the Fire station near her house. They serve great burgers, we just finished eating a lot of food when I took this shot. Note the lazy susan on the table, very handy when sharing deep fried okra!

Ruby and the sad little baby lamb shunned by its mother.

This was at my sister-in-law’s little ranch, on the way from Austin to Houston in Carmine, Texas.

Patrick and Lamb-y.

This nativity was in the living room, in lieu of a tree. It was so wonderfully simple and elaborate at the same time. The caretakers, who are from Mexico, created this scene.

And that was Texas!

visiting the family land in Austin, Texas December 30, 2007

It is lovely down here in Austin, weather and landscape and company alike. We are laying around and enjoying ourselves at my mother’s house, after driving up here on Friday night from Crystal Beach, Texas (near Galveston). We stayed in Crystal Beach for three days, where we visited with my husband’s family and stayed at the Sugar Shack right on the gulf.  The beach was windy and wild, and it was delicious to hear waves crashing at all hours of the day and night.   The kids played with their cousins and the dog played with the cousins’ two dogs, Coco and Macho.

We left Friday afternoon, taking the ferry from the Bolivar Peninsula across to Galveston.  Dolphins and seagulls followed alongside, so cool!  Unfortunately, I took a wrong turn after the ferry and we ended up driving about 3 hours out of our way.  We arrived in Austin late on Friday safe and sound, so all was okay.  Texas is a big state!

So, now we are planning our final day in Austin, sites to see, but mostly still laying around and enjoying talking and eating.  Ahh, the holidays.  It will be 70 degrees today, just perfect. maternal grandparents and their wedding carmaternal grandparents on their wedding day

Tomorrow we drive back to Houston, flying out on New Year’s day back to Colorado.  Back to life, back to reality.

Here are some old photos of my family, my mom is very good at keeping and scanning these.   Happy New Year!

my new car!Packing for our trip tomorrow, fighting off a cold, trying to keep the kids from fighting and opening presents before tonight, 8 am visit to the vet to get the dog’s health certificate so that we can fly her under our seat for $190 roundtrip, what a ripoff!  Our tickets only cost $200 and they’ve never asked for a certificate of health for any of us, animals definitely are second class citizens.

It’s been a busy week, dealing with my car being rear-ended last week, totalled car, painful neck injuries but nothing too bad.  Now we have a new car and are so thankful for that blessing, it is safe and warm and so so pretty!

We are flying to Texas tomorrow morning (yes, Christmas morning, this freaks so many people out.  Ruby thinks we are committing some sort of secular sacrilege).  We will be on the Bolivar Peninsula near Galveston by 5:30 pm.  There for three days, then up to Austin to see my side of the family.  Then, back to Houston for New Year’s Eve with cousins and flying out on New Year’s Day!

Wishing everyone love and peace this holiday.  Hope you get to relax a little, and enjoy the company of those you love (and hopefully like too).
